Top 5 Interesting Jobs
We have so many great pieces of art, wonderful sculptures and interesting antiques that we have packed and shipped for customers, it was a real challenge to pick 5 jobs that we found interesting and shows the variety of items we get to deal with on a daily basis.
Messum’s Gallery – Guy Taplin
Last year we were asked to pack and ship Guy Taplin’s work on behalf of Messum’s Gallery. The pieces were being sent to Rockland Maine to be exhibited at the Dowling Walsh Gallery. We sent the smaller collection by air and the rest by sea. As you can see from the pictures packing these incredible pieces was challenging as they were intricate and fragile. The team worked hard formulating the best method and then we sent the work on its way to America. Messum’s Gallery – Nic Fiddian Green
Nic Fiddian Green creates incredible sculptures. Part of the awe and beauty is the sheer size of his pieces. We imported this incredible bronze horse head sculpture known as “horse at water” from L.A. to be displayed in the UK countryside. At 365cm high and at a weight of 1235kgs a crane lift was required to move the sculpture, but when you see this piece on display it is definitely worth it!
Trinity Marine
We are lucky as a Devon based company to see the sea and countryside depicted in much of the local art we pack and ship for our customers. Trinity Marine have asked us on a number of occasions to pack and ship these detailed model ships in glass cases. Every model we see is different and it is both fascinating to see and interesting to pack to ensure the glass and model remains protected in transit.
Paul Copson – Exhibition (Art work by Brita Granstrom and Nick Haus)
One of our regular customers Paul Copson likes to find the best of the local talent when it comes to nautical paintings. We offer storage space to all the artists as they create and collate their pieces for Paul. When we have all the paintings we are then able to build bespoke cases for the paintings to send them to Paul’s gallery in Nantucket for the exhibition. The fun comes when artists are still finishing and working on pieces right up to the final minute sometimes delivering them still wet! It is always great to meet the artists and see such a wonderful range of styles and work.
Bearnes Hampton and Littlewood – Auction House
We work with some local auction houses, one of whom is Bearnes, Hampton and Littlewood. Recently they auctioned off these incredible antique diving helmets. These helmets were stunning to see and an interesting shape and size for our team to pack. Each helmet was packed and sent by air to various locations around the globe. Getting to see historic antiques which are both beautiful and tell a story is another fun part of our job.
So there it is an interesting insight into some of our most interesting jobs over recent years. We look forward to seeing what wonderful pieces of art, sculptures and antiques we have the pleasure of transporting in the future.
